I would like to take a moment and talk about my favorite cruise and travel luggage. As you already know, from my many blog posts, cruises are a fantastic way to explore the world while enjoying luxurious amenities and stunning ocean views. When preparing for a cruise or travel adventure, choosing the right luggage is crucial to ensure a seamless and stress-free travel experience. Here are some tips on selecting the best luggage for your cruise:
- Size and Weight: Check the cruise or airline’s luggage restrictions before packing to ensure your bags meet their guidelines. Opt for lightweight luggage to make navigating the ship and port terminals easier. Consider a medium-sized suitcase or a large duffel bag that can hold all your essentials without being too bulky.
- Durability: Cruise travel involves handling your luggage multiple times, from embarkation to disembarkation. Invest in durable luggage made of tough materials like polycarbonate or ballistic nylon to withstand rough handling and protect your belongings. That is what I have done with my choice of my favorite cruise and travel luggage.
- Wheels and Maneuverability: Choose luggage with smooth-rolling wheels for easy navigation around the ship, airports, and ports. Spinner wheels offer excellent maneuverability, allowing you to glide effortlessly through crowded areas and tight spaces on the cruise ship.
- Organizational Features: Look for luggage with ample compartments, pockets, and dividers to help you stay organized throughout your cruise. Having designated spaces for clothing, toiletries, gadgets, and travel documents can save you time and hassle during your trip.
- Security Features: Consider luggage with built-in locks or TSA-approved locks to secure your belongings while in transit. Some modern luggage models also come with smart locking systems or RFID-blocking pockets to protect your valuables from theft or unauthorized scanning.
- Versatility: Opt for versatile luggage that can easily transition from the cruise ship to onshore excursions. A backpack or daypack can be handy for carrying essentials during port visits, while a waterproof bag is ideal for beach outings or water-based activities. Personally, I have been using a TUMI junior cross body bag for a few years, and I like the size and quality. It also has these multiple pockets with zippers and clasps it provides for stashing things inside. I feel like it is very pick pocket-proof.
Tumi Luggage is now my favorite cruise and travel luggage.
The last few years, I have settled on the Tumi brand of luggage as my favorite cruise and travel luggage. I then proceeded to purchase some of their smaller bags, like the Tumi Hanging Travel Kit, which I like because it is larger than most Dopp kits. I also have the Split Travel Kit for my longer flights, where I have a carry-on bag. Finally, I have a few smaller ones for cords, extra medicines, and the like.

My next larger item was the Small Compact 4 Wheeled Brief Bag, as it was on a 50% off sales price. The amazing part for me is the wheels that are effortlessly rolling. Sometimes, if the floor is uneven, it wants to roll away from me! I have purchased their products made from what they call FXT Nylon Ballistic material, and it comes in black or dark blue. The sections and pockets are plentiful, maybe too much because I tend to forget where I placed certain items! It has a laptop holder (up to 16″) and an easy built-in recharger cord.

My latest purchase was a TUMI Alpha Medium Trip Expandable 4 Wheels Packing Case. It can be a challenge trying to keep it under the airline’s weight limits. But since I usually fly Business Class, it pretty much allows me to fill it as needed. I get the ‘HEAVY’ tag, and I know the baggage handlers do not like it very much. But It has sustained no damage, even after about 6 trips. I have quite a few more trips planned this year, so I will update this as it gets thrown around the planet!
The inside pockets are very well placed, and one side zips completely closed for the smaller things, while the other side has the X straps. There is a small outside-to-inside bag where you could put last-minute items or dirty clothes. There is a unique feature that gives you the flexibility to open it like a clam shell, OR just open one side like you would with a regular suitcase. The expansion zipper allows you to also expand the suitcase by about 2″. Of course, all these bags feature the TSA locks as required now, and setting the personal lock codes is very easily done. They have already attached luggage address tags where you simply complete the card inside the holder.

On my last trip, I overshopped, so it was necessary to add another smaller bag. So I opted for the Tumi Carryall Tote and was very happy with the simple design, and easy packability. It has a large strap on one side to slip it onto your roller or a wide strap to carry on your shoulder.
One of the best features of Tumi Luggage is their free worldwide tracking locator service, “TUMI Trace”. This is done with a somewhat hidden, unique luggage number code that you register online with the company. One of my favorite free extras is your initials embossed into a holder on the top or front of the suitcase. All TUMI luggage comes with a 5-year warranty.
By selecting the best cruise and travel luggage that meets your needs and preferences, you can enjoy a smooth sailing experience without worrying about your belongings. Although TUMI can be expensive, if it outlasts the other brands, it only makes sense to make the investment. I have learned my lesson over the past few years, with this being my 4th brand.
Remember to pack wisely, keep travel essentials accessible, and enjoy the adventure that awaits you on your cruise vacation!
